One of the first questions couples ask when considering a destination wedding is simple: how much does a destination wedding in Spain cost? Unfortunately, the answer is not quite as simple. A wedding for 40 guests at a countryside finca outside Madrid will have a very different budget from a three day celebration for 120 guests in Mallorca. Your destination, guest count, venue, catering, flowers, entertainment and the number of events you are organizing can all make a significant difference.
So, what should you realistically budget?
How Much Does a Destination Wedding in Spain Cost?
For most international couples, I would use the following figures as a starting point rather than a fixed rule:
| Wedding size | Suggested starting budget |
|---|---|
| Intimate wedding, 20 to 40 guests | €10,000 to €20,000 |
| Medium wedding, 50 to 80 guests | €20,000 to €30,000 |
| Larger wedding, 80 to 120 guests | €30,000 to €50,000+ |
| High end or highly customized wedding | €50,000+ |
These budgets assume you are planning a full wedding celebration with a professional venue, catering, photography, music, flowers and decoration, planning or coordination and the usual wedding day logistics. They do not necessarily include your flights, accommodation, wedding attire, honeymoon or your guests’ travel expenses.
And of course, it is absolutely possible to spend considerably more. Elaborate floral installations, exclusive venues, several days of events, international entertainment or luxury guest experiences can quickly take a destination wedding well beyond these figures.
The important thing is not to aim for an arbitrary «average» budget. It is to understand where your money will go and which elements matter most to you.
1. Venue and Catering
For most weddings in Spain, venue and catering make up the largest share of the budget, accounting for more than 50% of the total cost.
Exactly how venues price their weddings varies enormously. Some charge a separate rental fee and allow you to choose your own caterer, while others work exclusively with a specific catering company or have their own in-house kitchen and catering team. Many Spanish fincas and wedding venues also offer packages priced according to the number of guests.
As a general reference, wedding menus in Spain often range from around €135 to €200 per guest. Venues that charge a separate rental fee may add around €4,000 to €10,000, particularly for popular properties or highly sought-after dates.
A typical wedding package may include:
- Welcome drinks and appetizers
- Cocktail hour
- Seated dinner
- Wine and other drinks during dinner
- Wedding cake or dessert
- Open bar
- Basic furniture and tableware
- Venue staff
But never assume everything is included. Lighting, ceremony chairs, upgraded furniture, linens, additional hours of open bar, security, cleaning, sound equipment and late night food may all be charged separately. This is one reason comparing venue prices based solely on the initial price per guest can be misleading. A venue that initially looks more expensive may actually include considerably more.

2. Your Guest Count
If there is one number that has a major impact on your wedding budget, it is your guest count. Photography, music, planning, venue rental, ceremony setup and many other costs remain almost the same whether you invite 30 people or 80. This means that the cost per person can actually be higher for a small wedding.
Before you start contacting venues, I recommend creating at least a preliminary guest list. It will make your budget considerably more accurate.
3. Flowers and Wedding Decoration
This is one of the categories with the biggest variation. You could choose simple seasonal flowers for the ceremony and tables, or transform a venue with floral arches, hanging installations, candles, custom furniture and elaborate tablescapes.
As a very general starting point, you might budget:
- €1,500 to €3,000 for relatively simple florals and decoration
- €3,000 to €6,000 for more extensive styling
- €6,000+ for abundant flowers, installations and highly customized design
Seasonality matters too. Using flowers that are naturally available in Spain at the time of your wedding can help control costs. Imported flowers, large floral installations and designs requiring significant setup time will naturally increase the budget.
If flowers are important to you, I recommend deciding that early. It is much easier to allocate €5,000 to flowers from the beginning than to discover later that only €1,000 remains in your budget.

4. Photography and Videography
Photography is one area where I would be careful about choosing purely based on price. Your photographs are one of the few things you will still have decades after the wedding.
As a general reference, wedding photography in Spain often starts at around €1,500, with prices increasing depending on the photographer, number of hours, second shooter, album and other services.
For destination weddings, I would generally budget approximately:
- Photography: €1,500 to €3,000+
- Videography: €1,200 to €3,000+
If your preferred photographer or videographer is traveling from another region of Spain, remember that accommodation and transportation may also need to be covered.
5. Music and Entertainment
Music is a big part of weddings in Spain, and what you spend will depend on how much live entertainment you want throughout the day. As a general guide, you can expect to pay around €400 to €1,000 for ceremony musicians, €1,500 to €3,500+ for a live band, and €700 to €1,300 for a DJ, depending on the number of hours, equipment and location.
As I explain in my article on Spanish wedding traditions, photobooths have become a particularly popular addition to weddings in Spain. They typically cost around €400 to €800.
Keep in mind that travel costs, accommodation, sound equipment and additional hours may be charged separately, particularly if your chosen performers are traveling from another city or region.

6. Wedding Planner
Although it’s technically possible to plan a destination wedding in Spain without a wedding planner, I wouldn’t recommend it. A local wedding planner can help you navigate a supplier market that may work very differently from what you are used to at home.
Planning can include venue research, supplier sourcing, budget management, contract review, scheduling, communication, logistics and coordination on the wedding day itself.
Fees vary depending on the scope of the service, wedding location, guest count, complexity of the celebration and whether you are planning a single event or an entire wedding weekend, with prices typically ranging from €4,500 to more than €10,000.
When comparing planners, make sure you understand exactly what the service includes. One of the most valuable parts of working with someone locally is having somebody who understands what things should cost, knows which suppliers are reliable and can spot expenses you may not realize you need to budget for.
7. Guest Transportation
Transportation is an expense international couples frequently forget at the beginning. Many of Spain’s most beautiful wedding venues are fincas, estates, vineyards and country houses outside city centers. Your guests may therefore need transportation from their hotel or a central meeting point to the venue and back again after the party. This is particularly important when alcohol is being served and the wedding finishes late at night.
The cost will depend on the distance, number of guests, number of coaches and how many return times you want to offer. As a reference, Spanish wedding data puts the average cost of hiring a wedding bus at around €650, although destination weddings may require several vehicles or journeys.
I recommend including guest transportation in your initial budget rather than treating it as a last minute extra.
8. Ceremony Costs
For most international couples, a symbolic ceremony is the simplest way to celebrate their wedding in Spain. You can take care of the legal marriage in your home country and then hold a personalized ceremony in Spain without having to navigate Spanish marriage paperwork.
Many wedding venues offer ceremony packages for around €900 to €1,800, which may include the ceremony setup, chairs, basic decoration, sound equipment and sometimes floral elements. The celebrant is usually booked separately, with prices typically ranging from around €400 to €600.
The final cost will depend on how elaborate you want the ceremony to be and on what your venue already includes.

9. Hair and Makeup
Professional bridal hair and makeup in Spain can vary according to the artist, location and whether the service includes trials, with prices ranging from €150 to €250. You may also need to consider travel fees if your artist comes to your hotel or venue.
10. Stationery and Signage
Stationery costs can vary considerably depending on how customized you want your wedding to feel. Many destination couples choose digital invitations and a wedding website, then focus their budget on day-of items such as menus, place cards, welcome signs and seating charts.
A simple stationery package may cost a few hundred euros, while bespoke designs, custom illustrations and large-scale signage can easily bring the total to €1,000 or more.
11. Welcome Party and Day After Events
This is where destination wedding budgets can start growing very quickly. When friends and family have traveled thousands of miles to celebrate with you, it is understandable to want to spend more than one evening together.
Many couples organize a welcome dinner or drinks the night before the wedding and sometimes a brunch, pool party or beach gathering the following day. These events are completely optional, but if you want them, include them in your overall wedding budget from the beginning.
A casual welcome event does not necessarily have to be another formal reception. Tapas and drinks at a local restaurant, a relaxed beach gathering or a paella lunch can feel just as special.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Much Should I Budget for a 50 Person Wedding in Spain?
For approximately 50 guests, I would consider €20,000 to €30,000 a useful starting range for a professionally planned destination wedding. You could certainly spend less by choosing a simple venue, limiting decoration and keeping additional events to a minimum. You could also spend considerably more if you choose an exclusive property, elaborate styling, premium entertainment or several days of celebrations. The important thing to remember is that reducing the guest list does not reduce every expense proportionally. Your photographer, planner, DJ and many venue costs remain relatively fixed.
How Much Should I Budget for a 100 Person Wedding in Spain?
For around 100 guests, a realistic starting point would be approximately €40,000 to €50,000+. At this size, catering and drinks become a major part of the overall budget, and you are also more likely to need additional transportation, staff, tables, furniture and decoration. For a more elaborate destination wedding, budgets of €70,000, €80,000 or considerably more are entirely possible.
Does the Destination in Spain Affect the Cost?
Absolutely! Wedding costs can vary significantly depending on where in Spain you get married. Popular destinations such as Barcelona, Madrid, Mallorca, Málaga and the Costa del Sol often have higher venue and accommodation prices, especially during peak wedding season. Mallorca can also involve additional supplier travel and logistics costs because of its island location. Other destinations, including Valencia and less touristy regions, can sometimes offer better value while still giving you beautiful venues, great weather and excellent food. Ultimately, the biggest differences usually come down to venue demand, season, accommodation prices and whether suppliers need to travel.
How Much Should I Keep for Unexpected Expenses?
I recommend keeping approximately 5% to 10% of your wedding budget unallocated. Not because something is necessarily going to go wrong, but because your plans will evolve. Perhaps you decide you really want a live saxophonist after hearing one at another wedding. Maybe you fall in love with different chairs. Perhaps transportation turns out to require three buses instead of two. Having some flexibility means those decisions do not suddenly become stressful.
How to Make the Most of My Wedding Budget in Spain?
You do not necessarily need to choose the cheapest option in every category. A better strategy is deciding which three or four things matter most to you and spending accordingly.
If incredible food is important, invest in catering.
If photographs are your priority, choose the photographer whose work you genuinely love.
If you picture a candlelit dinner surrounded by flowers, make room for decoration in the budget from day one.
Then look for areas that matter less to you.
Maybe you do not need wedding favors. Perhaps you prefer digital invitations. Maybe your venue is beautiful enough that it requires very little additional decoration.
Your wedding does not need everything. It needs the things that make it feel like YOUR wedding.
So, Is a Destination Wedding in Spain Expensive?
It can be, but it does not have to be extravagant. Spain offers an enormous variety of wedding venues, suppliers and destinations, which means there is room to create very different celebrations at very different budget levels. What matters most is starting with realistic expectations. For an international couple planning a full destination wedding in Spain, I would generally consider €30,000 to €50,000 a sensible starting budget for a medium sized celebration, with the understanding that guest count, destination and the type of experience you want to create can move that figure significantly in either direction. Rather than asking «What does a wedding in Spain cost?», the more useful question is: «What kind of wedding can we create in Spain with our budget?» That is where good planning makes all the difference.
